The diamond wire
The story of the diamond wire began in the 1950's when big companies like
de beers, general electric and a few others, started investing large amounts
of money to produce synthetic diamonds.
Modern technology allowed the recreation of the same conditions
of pressure and temperature that occur in nature to form diamond crystals.Synthetic
diamonds however have a polycrystalline structure where natural diamonds have
a monocrystalline structure.
Various kind of beads.
In fact when a synthetic diamond is broken new tips are
formed and this make it ideal for cutting stone, marble and granite.
Block squared off with diamond wire in a quarry.
The diamond wire exploit this feature of synthetic diamonds as they are fixed
onto the beads and so it is able to carry out cuts in any directions, with
precision and low noise.
